U.S. Sunlight Corp. Solar-powered Attic Fan

For any installation questions, please call 1-866-446-2088 The 1010TR/HW solar-powered attic ventilator is the best product you can buy to reduce heat build-up in your attic in the summer and remove harmful moisture in the winter. Attic temperatures in the summer can exceed 65ºC (150ºF), heating up ducting and radiating heat into the interior of the home. Moisture is constantly added to your home by washers, showers and cooking. When this migrates to the attic, it condenses and can promote the growth of mould and mildew. The advanced design of this solar-powered attic fan provides more efficient ventilation while using no electricity. Benefits: Solar panel can be rotated and tilted to capture the maximum energy available from the sun Reduces damaging moisture in the attic in the winter time Extremely quiet: No harmonic hum typical of electric-powered fans Easy to install: No electrician, permits, or inspections required Lowers energy costs Extends the life of common asphalt shingles No cost of operation Attic Fan Features: Ventilate up to 125.42 sq. m (1350 sq. ft.) Wind tested to 240 km/h (150 miles/h) Impact and ultraviolet light-resistant engineered ABS shroud Rust-resistant galvanized and powder-coated metal components High output 38 V motor Temperature sensing switch included: shuts off motor on cold days or bypass the switch for year-round operation 35.6 cm (14 in.) proprietary fan blade for maximum airflow Commercial-grade 10 W solar panel constructed with high-transmission tempered glass 35 poly-crystalline solar cells on the solar panel Oversized heavy-gauge flashing designed for leak-proof installation (20-gauge steel) 6.35 mm (0.25-in.) stainless-steel rodent screen secured with galvanized self-taping screws Attractive black powder-coating blends in with any roof colour Compatible with Solar Controller (Costco item #267732), sold separately Specifications: Dimensions (L x W x H): Unit: 66 cm x 63.5 cm x 30.5 cm (26 in. x 12 in. x 25 in.) Poor man's air conditioning

Pros: extremely quiet., cheaper than competition., keeps house cooler.
"This fan is so quiet, the only way you know it's working is to feel the air blowing from the bottom. I noticed a difference the very next day. I had a new roof (black) installed and was worried the house would be warmer inside because of the darker roof but it was actually cooler because of this attic fan. Have only had it for a few months, but so far, it's worked perfectly."

Good when it works

Pros: does the work
Cons: have to be resetted once in a while
"I bought one like that last year. It regularly stops working with the message "FAILURE". To reset it, I unplug it from the electric power and assure that there is no more power (sun or house) on it. When I plug it back again, it starts working again for 1 month or two (or less).. Is it a malfunction or does it work like that ?. It's hard for me to reach it (on the house I have) or to uninstall it. So I kept it anyway and do the reset when it fails. I would have expected it to work without intervention for years. I dont like to put negative words about a product, but this is my situation."

Response from Costco:By BuyerHardwareJune 11, 2012
Thank you for your feedback. This solar attic fan featured here does not come with a Solar Remote Control (sold separately: Costco item # 267732) which, I believe, is where you are seeing this "FAILURE" message. It is very likely that you received a defective Solar Remote Control when you purchased it in a bundle last year, and we are certain that there is nothing wrong with the solar attic fan itself. The vendor will gladly replace the faulty Solar Remote Control at no extra charge. Please call our Call Centre (1-888-426-7826) at your convenience to make arrangements. Thank you.

Not what I expected

Pros: relatively easy to install
Cons: no fan operation if not bright sunny
"Installed this unit and was monitoring the operation on a bright sunny day, but partly cloudy. As soon as the sun was behind a cloud or just partialy covered the fan stopped turning. So to power this unit it needs full sunlight all the time, partial light is not enough. That is disappointing because the attic is still hot and would benefit from continued operation. The outer casing is made of plastic not metal as the description says, but the fan housing is metal. Should the solar panel run the fan when it is light out? I would think that is how it should work. Check other products that operate with the solar fan. might be more money but maybe a better product."
