Sever read performance issues
Pros: simple setup
Cons: very poor read performance support is not provide
"I purchased this WD Duo to store my photos and some films for streaming on Dec 20 2012. The Media server is basis but it does the job. I didn't want someting too sophisticated.
First day, I write my photos to the Media Server. Everything is running well as expected. Once the copy is completed problems start. The read performance is BAD. It takes nearly 15 sec to read a 3MB photo. No way to improve it.
In fact the unit write 2-3 times faster than it reads. First red flag.
Now when I tried to stream films from my TV problems got really bad. The movie hangs and hangs. When I stream a 720i movie from my Nexus 7 to my TV through the internet it runs 10/10. So my network is working.
In the logs there are Samba issues reported regarding connectiviy. The WD media server resets on regular basis when I write and read at the same time from two devices (PC and TV or Nexus7 and PC or Nexus7 and TV). In addition the Kernel log is full of read errors."Could not read all data on attempt #1" or "invalide raid superblock magic on sda3".
Clearly there is something wrong.
I called the WD support. The guy didn't speak good english and was even unable to read the procedure to diagnose the issue. The support didn't even ask for the log files ! So I gave up.
WD return to Costco tomorrow :("

Pretty neat piece of equipment
"Work with ios and windows without flaw. Using folder redirect for windows and shared storage for Mac and pc. No issues to date using Raid 1 configuration. Easily access media remotely via the iOS apps. Able to stream movies, pictures, files remotely or locally and use AirPlay on the iOS devices without flaw. With the recent update to the iOS app, we are now able to save back from the iPad to the storage device. Love this storage device, it allows us full access to our data wherever we are."
