Like his name....the espresso machine is PERFECTA

"Easy to operate, fully automatic device.
DeLonghi Perfecta it's perfect for a really good espresso or cappucino. I tested with 3 different coffee beans and the result is always good. Frothing of 2% milk is very easy. I checked a lot of infos on the web, and I was'nt too sure to buy it....but I guess satsfied customers does'nt write reviews. So I really recommended, and you'll not regret it.

Would not recommend

Pros: made decent crema
Cons: did not work when first received, very slow to froth milk
"I purchased this machine after returning the Delonghi Magnifico Exclusivo to Costco after 6 mos. use of because of a defective steam knob.
The Perfecta model, ESAM 5400, would not work when I unpacked it after delivery from Costco. I had to take it to a Delonghi service centre who adjusted an internal switch that previously did not recognize that the front door was closed. After the switch was fixed, I noticed that it took 2 minutes to froth one cup of milk to 150 C for a latte, twice as long as the machine I had returned when the steam knob was working. Both Delonghi and Costco's website listed in the specs that the Perfecta machine had a double boiler, the same as the prior machine so I was surprised that the new one took so long to froth. After a number of calls to Delonghi Canada and reporting the matter to Costco, Delonghi's US office called me and admitted that the machine had a single boiler, not a double one. Delonghi appears to have removed the machine from their website and Costco has changed their advertising to remove any reference about a double boiler. However the wait time to froth is unacceptable to me.
I just returned the Perfecta to Costco and won't buy Delonghi espresso maker again. I have just purchased a new Gaggia espresso maker from Costco so here's hoping I have better luck."

Taste of Italian Espresso in my home

Pros: excellent taste of coffee, fully automatic device - easy to operate
"Have recent memories of my trip to Italy. Italian espresso is the best in the world. DeLonghi Perfecta made my dreams to come true: taste of Italian espresso in my home. I recommend Lavazzia coffee beans, sometimes with small addition of Kirkland Espresso blend (darker roast). Minimum strength (one bean) setting will give you quite a strong espresso. I typically take double shots of espresso or cappuccino in the morning. Frothing of 2% milk is very easy and works every time. Very convenient mode: it can make two cups at once. Fully automatic device with sensors everywhere. It monitors water level, beans and spent coffee container. Make sure to check hardness of your water with the indicator strip (included) to avoid unnecessary descaling requests (default settings is for hardest water)."

Once bitten, twice shy!

Cons: one star is too high a rating
"I thought this would be my husband's dream gift, until we opened it and plugged it in, and this big flashing exclamation point appeared on the console. The safety switch, which is inside and not accessible, was stuck. The company told us to take it back to Costco. I did. And, seeing as my hubby loved the look, purchased another one online, thinking it was just a fluke that this one didn't work. After all, this is supposed to be an expensive high-quality product. Got it, plugged it in, and guess what? Big red exclamation mark flashing. Called company, and received the same response. Nothing they can do, take it back to Costco. I did. Won't be purchasing any of their products again. I woudn't even give this one star, but that is the lowest possible rating."
