Has Potential

Pros: looks good and wears well, good price
Cons: lousy battery/charging system, overly complicated to operate
" I wanted a watch that didn't constantly require new batteries, my choice was either the Casio or a Seiko Kinetic. Since I am not overly fond of stainless steel watches for every day wear I went with the Casio .... I should have gotten the Seiko. After 4 months of use the battery has never charged past the half way mark even after being placed directly under a very strong lamp for over 7 continuous hours. When the battery dies which has been twice now the watch has lost a lot of time and because it does not link to the atomic clock at this latitude I have had to re-adjust the time manually which is a total pain. If Casio ever gets the battery/charging system figured out this will be a great watch until then save your money and buy something else. "

Battery life

" A great watch, then the battery died after a week. I left it out in daylight for a day. Again flat that night.
I have read that many people have had the same problem and then traded up to the pathfinder. I just want it to work. I have written to Costco to see if this is a problem or user error, as I would love to give it another try.

Thank you for your review. In this case it may be a defective battery cell that is causing the issue. The GW500-1A includes a one year warranty and should you experience a problem, Casio will repair the watch at no charge.

The best watch ever

Pros: top quality and super reliable
" I purchased this watch for my 17 year old grandson. i have the same watch that is now 2 years old. This is an amazing watch.
It hooks up to the satellite daily and the time and date are always dead on. It automatically changes to and from daylight saving time. Never had any problem with the solar power that supplements the battery.
it is also fully waterproof and you never have to take it off to shower or swim.
This has been the most reliable watch I have ever owned and for the money has to be an excellent purchase.
I work around the yard doing a lot of physical work including chopping wood and the watch is rock solid dependable.
One of my friends also has the same watch and he swims a mile daily in a public pool with the watch on so he can track his lap times and it has never failed him.
I do not use all the features except for the time and the night light which you can turn on manually with a push of a button or by twisting your wrist.
You will not regret buying this item.

Casio G-Shock Atomic

Pros: atomic time keeping, solar powered, lots of features, auto light for night time viewing
Cons: battery could not stay charged under normal wear, possible i received a lemon of the bunch
" I purchased this watch online 3 weeks ago. I wanted the solar powered version so I would not have to keep replacing the batteries in my watch.
The watch itself is very good to look at and has more features than I woul d ever need or use. The atomic time keeping was excellent and eliminates the need for resetting the time anymore.
The automatic light sensor for night time viewing worked 60% of the time. What I mean by that is that when I was in bed and lifted my wrist up to see what time it was, the auto light feature would come on maybe 6/10 tries.
My biggest problem with the watch was that the battery kept running down quickly. The first time it ran down, I took the watch off and let it sit on a table for 8 hours with the lights turned on and then put the watch back on. The watch lasted may be another 6 hours keeping time and then it stopped registering the time because it did not have enough battery power to display the time.
Please note while I was wearing the watch, I was not using any auxiliary functions like the stopwatch or alarm features of the watch. The only feature I had turned on was the auto light feature for night time viewing.
It's possible I had a lemon of the bunch. If the watch had been able to keep charged up through my normal daily schedule, I would have kept the watch and been very happy with it.
I took the watch back and bought a Casio Pathfinder which also is solar powered and after 3days I have had no issues with the watch not being able to hold a charge. The battery indicator is always on high on the pathfinder watch, while the battery indicator on the watch I'm reviewing was always on medium. "
