Powerful, some issues
Pros: warranty powerful
Cons: beater bar struggles on most carpets
"No hose sock - nice quality rubberized hose but doesn't slide well as a result and will damage baseboards and furniture if pulled around. Buy a sock.
Small attachments resemble something you'd get as a free bonus with purchase. Cheap plastic. Dust brush will damage furniture. Bristles will deform quickly and scratch most surfaces. Also not full enough to avoid hitting objects with the plastic head they are housed in. Quality dust brushes are horse hair, larger and do not deform. Consider buying better attachments.
Floor brush is much larger than anything you will find with any vacuum, portable or central. Bristles are good and do not seem that they will deform early. Doesn't seem like same manufacturer as small attachments. Only con is that it is high off the ground so it doesn't fit under any of our kitchen appliances - fridge, stove, dishwasher, sub-woofers. But cuts time in half due to it's width. No locator button to attach straight on pipe, friction fit only - you need to eyeball it's position to the handle when attaching in order to keep your hand in a normal position.
Pipe for floor brush is not extendable as describes. The extended postion IS the position you need to use it in if you are over 5 feet tall. I would say it is 'retractable'. You can shorten it for storage or tight spots. It is no longer than a normal pipe when it is "extended".
Both beater bar pipe and floor brush pipe (yes they are separate, normally you have one pipe with a vac) don't lock nicely in the button holes. Have often pushed the beater bar past the lock when in use, then back out and completely falls off the handle because it is no longer aligned with the lock.
Beater bar is the most powerful I have ever used. You may be disappointed though. It will stop turning on most carpet, and on all rugs. Basically brute power but no proper engineering. It suctions itself to the carpet and actually pushes debris in front of it because the debris cannot get past the enclosure as it is sealed to the carpet. No reset circuit breaker on the head, but we've (unwantingly) stopped the beater bar often and it doesn't trip anything, just continues when you lift it up. Could suck up any mat clear off the floor, but won't actually perform as needed, if that makes sense. No height adjustment on the beater bar to avoid this over-suction problem, and no slide valve to open the pipe and lessen the suction. It is not fun to pull back as it wants to drive itself forward due to this agressive contact. Tends to jump/skip on certain carpets. Incredible unheard of warranty on the unit motor.
Closet hanging rack is cheesy. No hanger for floor brush, only hose. Wall outlet hose bores are too tight for the hose end. Be careful not to pull them out of the wall when removing the hose.
Pay attention to electrical outlet location when installing hose outlets - you need to be within the length of the electrical cord or you'll be using an extension.
Paint chips off easily around the edges of the steel can when dismounting for dumping. I believe this is an older discontinued container - new ones from Vac Shops are larger and plastic.
Consider installing unit in garage. Try hooking up to outlet first and turn on to see if you can stand the noise level in your basement.
Installation is not for a novice regardless of instructions. Have a competent friend help and plan well. You likely won't have enough pipe. I ran out before finishing and my house was already plumbed by the builder. 2200sqft. house. Partly due to locating the unit in the garage.
Overall, I'd only recommend if you are well aware of the cons. Really depends on your type of carpets, floors, and which of this issues you are willing to put up with."

Good Equipment with low quality installation instr
"Equipment might be good, but installation manual need to be improved. No instruction for how to install your low voltage side not ebven on hoover website. Very difficult time to install this unit. No support from vendor."
"I echoed with other members, it is a good machine and best price at COSTCO . But HOOVER needs to revamp the instruction and installation manuals, even on the website...Overall it is worth it to have it."
"Had this installed yesterday. My observations so far after an hour of use:
- Installer mentioned that the motor is really meant for a 4000sq. home with a max of 4 or 5 outlets (which includes the one on the motor). I have 6 outlets (including unit) and find that it appears to be sufficient.
-Overall construction of product is good, nothing flimsy.
- Need to buy a garage hose kit for vacuuming, will cost about $25 - 40...any generic brand will do."

Best bang for the buck
"I purchased this to replace the other central vac brand that I returned to Costco. What a differrence. This has a better power brush nozzle and therefore cleans better. Seems to have more power. This one is a keeper."

"I bought this unit and it works great. Very easy install replacing an older unit or in a new home that's already plumbed."
