Nightmare

"I experienced the same as the one where the valve leaked. My water pressure is between the limits on the box. When calling for parts they will tell you to install reducer. This did not work and I would not recommend this product. I spent a lot of money to install this product which after installation and trouble I could have bought a much superior product for much less. Please avoid."

Saved out butt a few times

"I love this product. Instaled in last house. Never had a problem. We had the house for 6 years. The power went out in our area quite a few times and with this product we didn't have to worry about the basement flooding. Just bought another one to instale in the new house."

This Backup Gets My "Back Up"

Pros: low price
Cons: low quality
"I am now about to return my second failed "Sump Buddy". The ONLY moving part - the float switch - is leaking considerably as did the first one. Having contacted the manufacturer, it appears that I might not have the optimal operating water pressure (45-55psi) to make this pump work without leaking. They recommended that I purchase a water pressure regulator..... information, that would have been nice to know before I spent considerable time and effort to install (and replace) the pump. So now you know. Less than 40 psi and it won't work - more than 55 psi and it will leak. Anything more will require the purchase of a regulator. Consider all of this BEFORE you buy this pump."

Response from Costco:By BuyerHardwareDecember 14, 2011
Thank you for your review. The best pressure to operate this pump is 60 PSI. During the last years, due to demographic explosion, several cities have improved their municipal water supply resulting in higher water pressures. When the pump is installed in these new areas, the high pressure can become a problem that was not existent 15 years ago when this pump was introduced into the market. This can be solved by installing a pressure reducer and set it to around 55 to 60 PSI. Verbiage will be added to our website clarifying this requirement.

A Must Have

"Awesome. This has averted disaster in power outages (when we aren't home) on a second occasion now. Just the insurance deductables would have cost me $1500 not to mention the increase in rates. Easy to install for the average DIY."

Excellent Purchase

"This is an excellent piece of kit! It works exactly as stated. We had a power failure during the thaw last Spring, when my sump pump was active, luckily the sump buddy had been installed the week before. The power was out for several hours and without the backup we would have a major flood in our basement. I recommend anyone in a similar position to have a sump buddy backup."
